Virtual communities are as important as their real-world
counterparts, many members of online communities believe.
- 28 Nov 2006 - The fact that Canal Sur Web works better on one browser
than another reminded me that competition between browsers has been sparked
by the release of the new Internet Explorer.
The Economist discussed it on 3 November 2006.
Now along comes IE7 with its almost holier-than-thou approach
not only to cascading style sheets but to numerous other web standards. What are
web designers to do?
- 21 Nov 2006 -
The language of Šekspīrs, the Economist, 2 November
2006. I'll bet this is something you weren't worried about.

- 14 Nov 2006 - 30 USB connections can produce something around 500W,
enough power
to cook
- 09 Nov 2006 - Piero Scaruffi's
knowledge base. An article in the New York Times said it this
isn't the best web site of all time, it's at least one of the most visited.
Look at his eclectic best-of lists and see if you agree with them, or if you
learn anything from them.
- 07 Nov 2006 - The
Economist, lots of useful information. One might not agree with them,
but they make points worth considering.
- 02 Nov 2006 -
Heiligenschein is a bright spot of light around the shadow of the
observer's head, cast on dewy grass land.
Why do I
find this interesting?
- 31 Oct 2006 -
The
worst political Web sites, by Declan McCullagh & Anne Broache, CNET
news, 25 Oct 2006.
The problem in selecting the most ridiculous, poorly
crafted, or just plain bizarre political Web sites is an embarrassment of
riches: There are so many worthy contenders. But whatever the criteria, the
Web site of Rep. Chris Smith, a New Jersey Republican who's running for
re-election, would qualify. Anyone thinking of putting up a Web site that's
devoid of actual content should skip the project instead on grounds of sheer
embarrassment.
- 26 Oct 2006 - "Jackson Pollock

- 24 Oct 2006 - Internet
Archive - the Wayback Machine, a tool to find some stuff that isn't on
the web any more
- 17 Oct 2006 - as we prepare for fall break, we might want to reflect on
where we are. One thing to think about is our psychic health. Stress is a
constant factor in life, and can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending
on the situation. It is useful to know something about how stress affects
us. David Fontana in 1989 wrote an article about
how to recognize and manage stress, and introduced the
Holmes-Rahe
Social Adjustment Scale. You might want to take it yourself to see how
you are doing. There are
several versions
available, one is supposedly
tuned to
your specific needs, but all of them are essentially the same -
reminders that seemingly small things can build up and have a negative
impact on us. If we can recognize the situation, we can then prune away the
unimportant stress factors from our lives.

interest to our readers."

- 03 Oct 2006 - The

- 28 Sep 2006 - Robert Randolph

- 26 Sep 2006 - The Modern
Language Association Language Map; A Map of Languages in the United
States. More JavaScript
- 21 Sep 2006 - no class, but we discussed time zones in class on the
19th. I referred to Greenwich Mean Time as "Zulu
Time". It is also known as "Z-time".
Just in case one wants to know, we are here in North Carolina, we could
convert from Universal
Coordinated Time or just know that we are in
Romeo Time.
