- 15 Dec 2006 - Grayson Miller shared with us his experiences with
Craigslist. This link is to the
local version, but there are similar lists in locations all over the globe.
- 14 Dec 2006 - Patrick Mortell told us about a Stanford University site
where you can download podcasts of
lectures and about a virtual world
where you can share a lot of stuff, including academic experiences
- 12 Dec 2006 - Prashant Katwa told us about
Dynamic Drive
It features numerous DHTML and Javascript codes that one can
use in their website for free. There are a lot of great ones there, so check it
out.
and dafont.com
This site contains many free font files that are available to
download for both mac and pc. So if you're working on a photoshop image and you
need a cool looking font or if you just want a clean-looking font for an
assignment, then have a look at dafont.com
The Internet Archive
has teamed up with etree.org to preserve and archive as many live concerts as
possible for current and future generations to enjoy. All music in this
Collection is from trade-friendly artists and is strictly noncommercial, both
for access here and for any further distribution.
- 07 Nov 2006 - Evan Carroll showed us the
Link Price Calculator,
a tool that can help us monetize the value of our web pages.
- 02 Nov 2006 - two again today
- 31 Oct 2006 - we had two today
- 26 Oct 2006 - Tera Kijek showed us
six considerations about money
on her website.
- 24 Oct 2006 - Amanda Zimmerman showed us
a YouTube video of what it must
feel like trying to complete Task 03.
- 17 Oct 2006 - none; lab time
- 12 Oct 2006 - Courtney Locus showed us
Oprah's page, in which we learned
things we wanted to know, but hadn't wanted to ask about.
- 10 Oct 2006 - Crystal Essex showed us a the
Nielsen Ratings of the top social
networking sites. Coincidentally, About.com released this week their list of
the
top ten social bookmarking sites. Also, Susan P. Barnes has written an
interesting
study of
the privacy paradox that is social networking in a recent FirstMonday,
an online journal.
- 05 Oct 2006 - Eric Kessler introduced us to
Vista, Microsoft's replacement for Windows XP. If you want to try it
yourself, Microsoft will offer you
the opportunity to try out
a beta version. Interestingly, CNET News published a related article (Perspective:
Is Windows still relevant? by Charles Cooper) on the general topic on
the following day. The article is interesting and so is the visualization
of the connections between CNET articles on related topics. All are
worth a glance. Finally,
Microsoft has sent out final test version of Vista, in case you are
interested in a trial.
- 03 Oct 2006 - none; lab time
- 28 Sep 2006 - Chase Birchette showed us
PlasmaPong, a downloadable newer
version of the venerable Pong
- 26 Sep 2006 - Adam Farlow showed us two sites, both done originally in
FrontPage.
JesterSportFishing.com and
whistleradventures.net both display the several of the very useful
navigation and object placement tools available in FrontPage. Note, however,
how the site designer for
whistleradventures.net was not closely watching the title attribute in
the head. Several pages have the same title, when the designer probably
meant to use more correct, more clearly descriptive titles for those pages.
We won't want to do that on our sites.
- 21 Sep 2006 - no class; optional lab
- 19 Sep 2006 - Jennifer Summers -
face tracking webcams research,
Seon Joo Kim, Computer Science (you might want to look at
his site for some design
ideas)
- 14 Sep 2006 - Judge Johnson: Mozy.com,
remote backup of your files
- 12 Sep 2006 - we were so excited to start HTML that we forgot to solicit
a "volunteer"
- 07 Sep 2006 - Chase Birchette: Toyota's work with new
accident amelioration technologies
- 07 Sep 2006 - Shawn Guy: Facebook
and what it's up
to. As it turns out, it
wasn't all that popular (and
how!) and they had to
make some changes.
- 05 Sep 2006 - Michael Masterson: introduced us to the
goings on in his neighborhood
- 31 Aug 2006 - John Mapp:
new ticket procedures
for UNC games
- 29 Aug 2006 - Ashley May:
UNC
Chapel Hill, Davidson College dubbed 'new Ivies', by April Bethea,
Charlotte Observer, 15 Aug 2006
- 24 Aug 2006 - a "volunteer": something you found interesting and want to share
