inls 461 - Introduction to Information Science

Goal: This first lesson is a very short introduction to "Information Science". We will explore what "Information" is, some ways it is used and how to manage it.

We will also meet each other in the discussion forums. Lastly, each person will confirm that they have the correct software and that it is correctly installed on their computer.

Install Microsoft Office Professional Edition on your computer, if you haven't already done so.

Open the following components to ensure that they are at there and will successfully open:

  • Access - note: Access is not a default component of Microsoft Office. Access may only be available in Office Professional.
  • Word
  • Excel

If you do not have the professional version of Microsoft office installed on your computer, or if for some other reason. You need to purchase a new copy of Microsoft office, you can take advantage of UNC's student pricing discount by ordering through the RAM Shop .
