Scope and Purpose

This pathfinder is intended to give a broad overview of the range, history, artists and institutions of twentieth century Outsider Art. While most resources focus on the whole of Outsider Art, some are broader (such as reference materials) and a few are narrower (such as a book on a particularly important and representative artist). The intended audience need not have a background in art. However, many of the sources are at the college or graduate level and reflect the scholarly efforts and backgrounds of their creators.

The materials are divided by format before type (as that is how they are generally accessed), so you will find bibliographies, articles and journals in both the Print and Online Resources sections.
