About the SILS Library

The School of Information and Library Science (SILS) Library is part of the UNC-CH Academic Affairs Library System and its collections are available for use in the Library by all interested persons. To borrow materials from the SILS Collection, UNC-CH students, faculty and staff need a UNC One Card. The card is available from the One Card Office, which is located in the basement of UNC Student Stores. For more detailed information check their website. NCSU, Duke University, and NCCU students can use your own id cards, but first you must go to Davis Library Circulation Desk to be entered into the system. Other patrons need a borrowers card available at the Davis Library Circulation Desk.

The SILS Library collection supports teaching and research needs in information and library science for students and faculty of the School. The School offers three degrees: a Master of Science in Information Science, a Master of Science in Library Science, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Information and Library Science. It also offers a Certificate of Advanced Study in Information and Library Science for practitioners who wish to enhance their professional career development in these fields. An undergraduate minor or major in information systems is offered by SILS.

As interest and use of electronic information technology and resources have grown in recent years our user population has greatly increased. Non-SILS users of our library now include not only campus librarians, but also students, faculty, and staff members from almost every department on campus. As our resources and staffing permit, we also serve a wide variety of off-campus users. These off-campus users include other librarians and information specialists from the state of North Carolina, and an increasing number from the rest of the United States, and around the world.
