2005 Electronic Records Research Symposium

In 2005, the symposium was held in the Pleasants Family Room in Wilson Library on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Robert Spindler, Arizona State University Archivist and founder of the ECURE Conference, delivered the keynote address.

The 2004-2005 Fellows (i.e., Kunde, Samuels, Schulte, Samuels) presented the results of their research and the 2005-2006 Fellows (i.e., Choksy, Katte and Mitchell, Peri and Zach, Smith and McCall) discussed their research plans for the coming year with symposium participants.

Symposium Presentations

Robert Spindler: In Search of Strategic Direction: Digital Preservation Advocacy in Higher Education

Rob Spindler is University Archivist and Head of the Department of Archives and
Special Collections at Arizona State University Libraries. He holds Bachelors and
Masters degrees in American History from Boston University and the Master of Science
from the Simmons College Graduate School of Library and Information Science
(concentration in archives management). He is past chair of the Society of American
Archivists Electronic Publications Working Group, its Task Force on Electronic
Publications and its Archival Information Exchange and Nominating committees. He is
also project coordinator for Arizona Archives Online, an online index to EAD encoded
finding aids from archives throughout Arizona. He serves on the Arizona’s State
Historical Records Advisory Board. He is also founding conference co-chair for ECURE:
Preservation and Access for Digital College and University Resources, an
interdisciplinary conference sponsored by ASU from 1999-2006.
