Jazz Graphic

Jazz Mosaic—Faculty Recruitment in a New Key (ALISE Conference 2002) will be a highly interactive conference where educators, doctoral students, practitioners, and scholars in librarianship, the information sciences, and other disciplines will explore the timely topic of faculty recruitment. For example, programs will focus on

  • Next generation faculty—Where and how will we recruit?
  • Faculty diversity—How can we create a diverse workplace for faculty?
  • Divergent foci—How do we serve core, specialist, and interdisciplinary interests?
  • New leadership—Where will we get new deans, directors, and program chairs?

The content of the ALISE conference program develops from plenary programs designed by the Conference Planning Committee, from programs proposed by Special Interest Groups (SIGs), from research papers submitted for awards, and from juried papers. Your avenue to conference participation might be any of the following:

  • Create a poster for the Doctoral Students SIG Research Poster Session (if you're a doctoral student) and propose it to the Doctoral Students SIG Convener, Sharon McQueen (UW-Madison). Due November 15, 2001.

  • The ALISE Board of Directors is funding two "Doctoral Students to ALISE" Awards for the 2002 Annual Conference in New Orleans, LA. Each dean is eligible to nominate one doctoral student from her/his respective school. ENTRIES SHOULD BE SUBMITTED TO YOUR OWN DEAN/DIRECTOR. Each dean will then submit all entries to Louise Robbins, 3rd year ALISE Board Director and Director of SLIS, Madison. Due no later than Sept. 14, 2001.

  • Review the criteria for ALISE research awards (copies in 2001 conference packet and on ALISE website) and submit a research paper that meets the criteria. Dissertation award submissions are due July 2, 2001; all other award submissions are due September 14, 2001 to Rebecca Watson-Boone, Ph.D., President, Center for the Study of Information Professionals, Inc.

  • Work through a SIG to plan, propose, and participate in a conference program for 2002. SIG proposals are submitted to Ann Curry (British Columbia), ALISE Board 2nd year director and ALISE Board Liaison to the SIGs. For the upcoming conference, the Doctoral Students SIG has planned an exciting session, From Dissertation to Presentation: Pointers and Points of View.

  • Submit a paper to the Juried Papers Committee. Due September 14, 2001 to Danny Wallace (Oklahoma), Chair of the Juried Papers Committee. More specifics on submission of juried papers can be found on the separate Call for Papers.

  • Propose a program related to the conference theme to the Conference Planning Committee. Due September 14, 2001 to Elizabeth Aversa (University of Tennessee), Chair of the 2002 Conference Planning Committee.

  • Recognize the achievements of a professional colleague by nominating him or her for one of the annual ALISE Awards: Service, Contribution to the Profession, Excellence in Teaching, Faculty Innovation.
