Doctoral Students and New Faculty Mentorship Program

The ALISE Doctoral Students and New Faculty Mentoring Program provides an opportunity for doctoral students and new faculty to obtain advice and direction from experienced library and information science (LIS) educators. The Mentorship Program is a voluntary service whereby mentors and mentees establish their own working relationships, at their own discretion. This mentorship service may supplement a mentorship program already available at a participant's own institution or be the source of mentoring for participants who do not have such a mentorship program available. Doctoral students and new faculty can benefit from and value the perspectives, advice, and direction from experienced LIS educators outside of their own institutions. ALISE recognizes the rich resources of its members and values their contribution in the development of junior colleagues through this mentorship program.

Mentors - Experienced LIS educators who are ALISE members volunteer to serve as mentors and share their expertise and experience with mentees on an informal basis.

Mentees - Doctoral students and new faculty who are members of ALISE and want to obtain guidance, orientation, and support outside their own institutions may participate in the mentorship program.

The Mentorship Program is organized by the ALISE Recruitment Committee. The Recruitment Committee will respond to requests from mentees who wish to be matched up with mentors.

List of Activities
The mentor/mentee relationship may involve some of the following activities:

  • Assistance in networking with other LIS educators.
  • Advice during job searching.
  • Orientation and informal meetings at ALISE and other conferences.
