Meet the friendly AMLISS officers, learn more about our activities, and hang with fellow students as we check out the sights and sounds of Carrboro's arts and crafts venues. The Art Walk is a public event held on the second Friday of each month and is a great way to explore and learn more about the arts in our community.
- We'll meet up at 6:00 at the Southern Rail restaurant for the weekly SILS Happy Hour. At 7:00 we'll set out for a leisurely stroll through Carrboro, stopping to check out the many exhibits in the downtown area. Plan on about an hour of walking and looking (more or less). If the weather is disagreeable, we'll just sit tight at Southern Rail for some end-of-week R&R.
Heather Gendron, Art Librarian, and J.J. Bauer, Visual Resources Curator will discuss their work at UNC and answer questions about their specialized areas of librarianship. Come by, have a cookie, and learn more about art-centric library jobs in academia.
- The discussion will also include information about how SILS can help you prepare for a job in art librarianship.
- Learning opportunities at SILS include:
- The dual MSLS(or IS) and Master of Art History (MAH) degree
- Internships and field experiences at museums, art libraries, and related institutions
- Art Librarianship course (forthcoming)
Andrea Knowlton, Assistant Conservator will provide a tour of the lab and explain some of the work that goes into preserving, repairing, and restoring UNC's special collections holdings. She will also explain education and professional activity in this unique area of librarianship, and answer your questions.
