The Statue of Liberty in Music

The Statue of Liberty has inspired many musicians with her majesty. I have 2 songbooks in my shrine that feature her on the covers. Paul Simon, Neil Sedaka, and Don Henley and scores of others have sung her praises:

  • Liberty (1916) by Ted Baron
  • Ten Million Men and a Girl (1942) by John Redmond et al
  • She Will Be Standing in the Harbor, Lombardo & Loeb
  • Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor, Irving Berlin (from the show "Miss Liberty," 1949)

Below are a few other examples of Liberty musical settings.

SoL collector Brian Snyder of Fresno, California came through for me with this great sheet music cover from his vast collection.

This is the first page of a score I found on the Internet.

Henry Koretzky surprised me with this CD he found at the International Bluegrass Music Assoc. (IBMA) Conference in Louisville, KY.
