Lyrics
Old Dan Tucker's a find old man,
Washed his face in the frying pan,
Combed his hair with the wagon wheel,
Died with a toothache in his heel.

Get out of the way for old Dan Tucker,
He's too late to get his supper.
Dinner's over and supper's cooking,
And old Dan Tucker standing a-looking.

Old Dan Tucker went to school,
A horse and a buggy tied to a mule;
The horse ran away and the buggy upset
And old Dan Tucker's not found yet.

Get out of the way for old Dan Tucker,
He's too late to get his supper.
Dinner's over and supper's cooking,
And old Dan Tucker standing a-looking.

Old Dan Tucker he got drunk,
Fell in the fire and kicked up a chunk
Got a live coal right in his shoe
And Lawsy massy how de ashes flew.

Get out of the way for old Dan Tucker,
He's too late to get his supper.
Dinner's over and supper's cooking,
And old Dan Tucker standing a-looking.

Old Dan Tucker he come to town,
Swung the ladies round and round;
First to the right and then to the left,
And then to the ones that you love best.

Get out of the way for old Dan Tucker,
He's too late to get his supper.
Dinner's over and supper's cooking,
And old Dan Tucker standing a-looking.

Note from E.L. Simons (1952): This song was sung at play parties, and danced to as indicated in the last verse, by my grandparents.

According to Lomax, Folk Song U.S.A., this song was composed by Dan Emmett, page 77. Since Emmett original song many new verses have appeared in this song and the Folk have made it their own.
