Evaluation
An online class will involve lots of reading and writing. We will have one formal paper to do as a wrap-up to the semester, but we will have a lot of informal writing to do weekly as we consider the readings and engage in discussion of topics that pop up in the course of the semester.
I like to use a 24 hour clock, so I have specified the due dates below using one. All tasks are should be made available to the group by the end of the day on the due date. That means the end of the day in your time zone. Your computer clock should automatically date and time stamp all your submissions.
The topics, percentages, and due dates are listed below:
Topic | Percentage | Due Date |
---|---|---|
a description of the public library you know | 10% | by 2359, Sunday, 24 August 2008 |
online consideration of the readings | 50% | by 2359, every Sunday starting 31 August and lasting through 30 November |
participation in online discussions | 20% | as appropriate all through the semester |
a description of the public library you would want to have | 20% | by 2359, Sunday, 07 December 2008 |
I will communicate your grades directly to each of you via email. The grade on the first and last tasks will be sent to you within 72 hours of the due date. The grade on both of the ongoing tasks will be wrapped up in the final grade (though if there is any concern about whether or not you are doing acceptably well, I will communicate my thoughts directly to you).
