Sources listed in this section are categorized by their format. Each category contains different levels of sources to guide the user practice yoga or help the user understand more about yoga practice or therapy.

It should be noted that each individual’s body and learning style is different. Should the users find any of the sources not appropriate for them, they are encouraged to try other materials available in UNC libraries.

Part I Books


The audience of this section can be anyone who now practices yoga or would like to begin. Books 3 and 4 can also be great sources for yoga teachers, body workers, doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals/students.

What's inside: author is a western-trained doctor and a yogi; overview of yoga as medicine; general information on practicing yoga; in-depth coverage of yoga therapy in a range of diseases in separate chapters; each chapter begins with a disease overview followed by a detailed explanation of “how yoga fits in” and a literature review on the scientific evidence of yoga’s effects on this disease; finally, a well-illustrated yoga practice plan is provided
